John Brigham and 30 fellow petitioners are given a land grant of about 12,000 acres, providing at least forty families and a minister settle on the land within three years. There are an additional 9,000 acres of land already owned by other petitioners scattered in eight parcels in various locations. All land grants were awarded by the general court, except one purchase from Native Americans.
