1753 Transportation
Benjamin Franklin is appointed the first Postmaster General for the Colonies.
He will travel by stagecoach along the Post Road from New York to Boston directing the placement of milestone markers along the way. The marker reads:
Boston 35
Springfield 65
Albany 165
One of these "Franklin markers" is placed in Shrewsbury and will later mark the entrance to Dean Park.
