1806 Transportation
The Worcester Turnpike Corporation has built a road from Roxbury to Worcester. This private corporation will collect tolls for use. The road has been laid out as straight as possible, following the "bee line" policy. In order to cross Lake Quinsigamond travelers must board a floating bridge.
The floating bridge will be replaced with a dirt causeway in 1862 and ultimately a cement bridge in 1919. The road will become Route 9.
