1897 June 1 Medicine
F.H. Perkins opens the first bakery in town at 40 Maple Avenue. In addition to bakery goods he sells soda and cigars. Mr. Perkins also sells his own line of patented medicines. His Newfoundland dog, Trilby, serves as mascot for the medicines and gives strong endorsement on postcards reading "I am Trilby Perkins. My head never aches; if yours does take my master’s headache powders. They give quick relief and contain no harmful drug."
