1993 August Building

The Balch Dean Tavern is moved from its location on Route 9 to Route 20. Thanks to the interest of Friends of Balch Dean Tavern and support of the current owners this unique building is being preserved. The following poem was written at the time to capture the spirit and history involved with moving the Balch Dean Tavern.

"Balch Dean Tavern"

If bears roamed the Balch Dean Tavern

I know just where they’d be,

Lurking about in the Stone Arch

That holds up the old chimney.

They’d bounce down stairs with the barrels.

They’d swing from the rafters high.

When you opened the beehive oven,

They’d race you for apple pie.

Unfortunately in 2004 the Christmas Tree Shops bulldozed the building into the ground.
